If you can afford it look into getting one of the Minn-Kota Endura MAX motors, they are supposed to have significantly improved battery life from more advanced power circuitry. They are a bit more money than the standard Minn-Kota but its the one I am going to buy for my own canoe. I'd rather be able to bring a smaller battery to save weight.
