I speak English and found lots of words I didn't know when I started coming here. Same thing, but different name in Aus.
Rebate = Rabbit. Rabbits here are small fluffy things that eat everything.
Planer = Thicknesser. They come in two types planing thicknesser or sanding thicknesser.
I don't know of anything like you are talking about but it sounds like a good idea. I got a book on how to build furniture first printed in 1902 and yeah it's a tough read alright. Well how about that, there's a 24 page glossary in the back. This is the book I highly recommend it, I bought it to see how to make double hung sash windows but it has so much more in it.
Modern Practical Joinery by George Ellis. Published in 1902, and is encyclopaedic on the use of hand tools. It also has a brilliant chapter on early machines. It's not a gripping tale, but its my go-to reference book. It was my bus-to-work book for a good month.
