You still had a working S4!!! Mine died a year and a half ago. What a great phone. My advice - always buy unlocked. With the price wars between carriers, having an unlocked phone that's compatible with all carriers is nice. And if you decide to resell later, well, that opens the market up for a lot more potential buyers.

You could always find a 5X or 6P (I have a 6P and love it) but there have been some battery and bootloop issues.


The OnePlus 3T is also a great value.

Or, if you want a top of the line unlocked phone, the Pixels are nice, although they are pricey and the next gen Pixels should be released in less than 6 months.

Moto G4 Plus is the only low-end phone for Verizon that isn't garbage. Spend the extra $50 on the 64 GB/4 GB version.

A bit over but best bit is Moto G4+. If you can't shell out the little extra, check out the OnePlus 2 (although I highly recommend getting the G4 over it).

As for the Moto G devices:

Currently you can get the Moto G4 Play for $129 from Amazon. Amazon is nice since you can return it if you have issues.

The Moto G4 I recommend because it's unlocked. If you ever leave Sprint, you can use it on Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile as well. It's also a world phone, so you can use Sprint's free GSM global roaming. As mentioned above, the G4 is a newer phone that supports all 3 Sprint LTE bands (850, 1900, 2500). Only negative is it is very much a budget device, so the camera is okay (probably as good as your old Galaxy S3) and it has a 720p screen (again the GS3 has a 720p as well).

Honestly The Moto G4 Plus is a fantastic phone for $250 new and unlocked. I got one for my SO and she loves it.

THIS is the one I would go with. 64gb and 4gb ram makes it pretty clearly the winner.. that priv is a hell of a deal for a hell of a phone too.

well, I have an iphone 5s and it runs pokemon go extremely well, so that will be fine, and unlocked phones do work as long as they run on stock software, no cynogenmod. As for Mr android, id pickup the moto g4 (I will link at the end of the comment) as it should run pokemon go really well, as well as be an all around decent phone.

I have no experience with the G5 Plus, but I can definitely recommend the G4 Plus! The 64gb with 4gb of RAM is really nice to have, and I can leave apps in my recents and come back to them right where I left off after several hours. The phone tends to get pretty warm due to the Snapdragon 617, but I've gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me.

I want to add that the G4 Plus has a 5.5" 1080p display, while the G5 Plus's display is a 5.2" 1080p, considerably smaller than the G4 Plus. If you have small hands, you might want to consider the G5 Plus, but the G4 Plus has worked well for me even in my tiny hands - I just hold the phone differently now.

Also, this is just personal taste, but the bezel-to-screen ratio on the G4 Plus is significantly better than the G5 Plus.
