The cheapest mixer I would consider would be a Behringer Q1202USB ($100US). 4 XLR jacks, a USB connection to a computer to record and a couple Aux Sends so you can do a Mix-Minus for Skype guests if you want.

im also hunting for singstar microphones but cant justify the price of new. i might get these instead but not sure if it will work, i already have the singstar USB that plugs to the PS2 -

Sure! Admittedly the equipment I'm using is all cheap quality, but I figure I can replace components over time as I get better at playing cello. Right now I'd just like to know the cause of the hissing or how I can easily filter it out.
