This may sound stupid but true story...
My cat keeps locking himself in the laundry room or the spare room. Also this item works where when the door opens a chime is let out. the two magnets line up and as long as they are side by side nothing happens but when they are separated it makes a sound. I have free 2nd day shipping at amazon if you need any of these to feel safe and epically if your parents refuse the lock.
