They are amazing for sinus infections or just really bad colds. However, in my experience the squeeze-bottle sinus rinse works much better than the pots.
If your using it on your children you probably want the pot though, since you can do some mild damage if you squeeze super hard, and kids probably won't know how to control the pressure properly.
For cleaning out I use this. Now, obviously DO NOT use this to clean your sinuses after sticking it up your ass. I find it gives me enough water that I don't end up getting too far up there and it's real easy to use.
I don't really know about risks I figure worst is I get colon cancer which is practically a guarantee sometime in my lifetime considering my risk factors so meh. I figure the risk is probably from washing away the mucus lining of your colon which will make it easier to get microtears which will make you more susceptible to STDs. But I'm no doctor.
