Wow. You've missed so much... Wanda becoming what people always feared in Disassembled and House of M. The rebirth of cosmic Marvel in Annihilation. The epic Civil War. The best Hulk stories in years in Planet Hulk and World War Hulk. The Skrull's revenge in Secret Invasion. Osborne's Dark Reign and Seige. The best new Avengers title in a long time...

This fastrack trade list might help you in getting caught back up quickly.

Ok, that makes sense even if it does get a little confusing. I appreciate the breakdown. I see that there is an Omnibus out for the first run but it's pretty expensive. I would definitely pick it up if it was $45 or so. I'll still keep my eyes out for it though.

You want to start with Brian Michael Bendis' New Avengers: https://www.amazon.com/New-Avengers-Omnibus-Vol-1/dp/0785164898
and House of M: https://www.amazon.com/House-M-Brian-Michael-Bendis/dp/0785117210/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1524074098&sr=1-1&keywords=house+of+m

From there, you can follow the reading order through Civil War, Secret Invasion, and Siege. Then there's some other random stuff, til Bendis leaves that book. Then Hickman takes over. You'll want to do Hickman's Fantastic Four run (collected in two omnibuses), and his Avengers run through Time Runs Out and Secret Wars.

SEPARATE FROM ALL THAT is the Cosmic side of things, which I love. You'll start with Annihilation, then Annihilation Conquest. Then Abnett and Lannings Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus, which will tie in with War of Kings and Realm of Kings.

I went by this reading order pretty religiously: https://www.comicbookherald.com/the-complete-marvel-reading-order-guide/ and have loved it. Some of it is skippable-- feel free to reach out with any questions!

My mini primer for you:

If you have a computer you use a lot, or any sort of a tablet (hell, you can use your phone too if you don't mind), it may be a good idea to look at Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited.

You have unlimited access to almost any Marvel comic except for the really new stuff for $9.99 a month or $60 for a year ($5/month). Since you're starting out, there will be TONS for you to read.

Once you do that, or you would prefer to buy the physical books, a good starting point for anyone interested in Marvel would be Avengers Disassembled. It is sort of a "refresh" to the team after it got way too big in the mid-2000s. This goes straight into Brian Michael Bendis' acclaimed New Avengers run.

You get thrown in head first, but it's a great way to get exposed to lots of Marvel heroes and villains very quickly, and you become familiar with them after a while. If you've seen most of the new Marvel movies, you'll be fine. You even get cameos every now and then of some cosmic heroes like GOTG members.

As for GOTG specifically, the book recommended by /u/industriallatheman is indeed great, but you actually need a bit of backstory for it, as it comes after a couple of huge cosmic Marvel events.

Check out this awesome detailed guide to cosmic Marvel. This will get you your mega fix of Guardians, Thanos, Ronan, and everything in between. At the very least, read Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest before you start Guardians of the Galaxy.

Hope this helps, Marvel is awesome, let me know if you have any other questions!

If this is the omnibus you have, that only covers the series up to the end of Civil War. I don't think there's been another volume of that omnibus put out.

I would recommend subscribing to Marvel Unlimited, it'll save you a lot of money, but if you're buying paperbacks, these are the ones you'll want:

Alright, OP. First thing first, check this service out. Marvel Unlimited

I started a month ago because of the marvel 75 unlimited deal (seriously if you're a casual noobie like me, this service is the shit).

This guide helped me out A LOT.

Here's my adventure into the vast unknown territory of comics:

I love the X-men so I started with:

  • Morrison X-men (2000) and branched off to other interesting characters during the

  • House of M (2006), which imo is the most entertaining crossover arc that featured the mutants.

  • Whedon Astonishing X-men (2007-9?) is still my favorite X-men arc

I skipped the Avengers** Disassembled and went straight into the

  • New Avengers (2004) (Read this if you skipped the Disassembled like I did. And Spiderwoman is so hnng).

  • Captain America (2006) if you're into freedom and crap (just kidding, it's really good)

I couldn't get into Ironman and Thor (though the recent arc with the god slayer is amazing).

  • Civil War

** Spiderman is a nopenopenope for me. I almost had a heart attack (arachnophobia is a bitch) when he turned into a spider during the beginning of the Avengers Dissembled(?).

Anyway just pick a book and keep reading, OP. I was also overwhelmed with the massive amount of books like you are right now a month ago!
