Yes you can wax like any other car. But, you need to clean it first. Since I doubt you have professional products and tools, what you need to do at home is get some dupont #7. It used to come in a green metal can, I have to assume this is the same shit, nothing else out there works like this stuff. It's the only dupont product I would use, everything else is garbage including all the paint. What this stuff does is remove dirt and oxidation, your paint has no clear coat, so you will see color on the rags you use. The type of paint is baked enamel, no other name, that is the shit on that car, my dad painted at the factory. It was cured at 400 degrees and made some of the toughest finishes out there.

After it's clean, you can wax. The only wax I like is meguires #26, I've tried most of the wax out there and this shit is about the best. It's a paste wax, takes armstrong to use it, but it comes off very easily and if you lean on the car afterwards you will end up on your face. Any time the water doesn't bead up on the paint, it's dying. The wax protects it from the elements, and since the factory paint has no uv protection in it, it's subject to the elements.

The alternative is using machines to buff the paint out with compound, wash and wax. This takes skill and really not for occasional use as the buffer cost $150 plus pads and compounds. 90% of people out there doing this stuff have no idea how to do it, it's a job they can fake and make money, much like most auto painters. In all my years I've never seen a detailer that knew his ass from a hole in the ground and only seen a handful of painters I'd let touch my shit. (to be fair, most bodymen are shit too)
