Off the top of my mind, specific books they've mentioned that I've enjoyed:
-
-Hitch 22 by Christopher Hitchens

-

-Open Letters by Vaclav Havel

-

-The Battle for Spain: The Spanish Civil War 1926-1939 by Antony Beevor

-

-So You've Been Publically Shamed by Jon Ronson

-

-Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe

-

I'll try to remember more and add to it as I can recall them.

EDIT

-Ghost Wars by Steve Coll

-

-Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS by Joby Warrick

-

-Both Ian Kershaw and Richard Evans' accounts of HItler, Germany, and the Third Reich in WWII

-

-Moynihan did a long interview in Vice about Karl Ove Knausgaard, so I would imagine maybe he's a fan

-

-Bad Blood by John Carryrou

-

-The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie

I think the Velvet Underground named themselves after a book about the 60s that talked about the depravity and sadomasochism. :D If you are interested in the Velvet Revolution then this is the book that my friend was reading that seems really interesting. I want to thank you ravia for reading through my post and pointing out what I could do to improve things. I do think that I need to learn how to do things. But more than that I need to know how to prioritise things. I was on an extremely difficult academic program for grad school but I was also busy in too many other things to be able to effectively manage my time.
Thank you for the book. It means a lot to me. I read Thus spake Zarathustra and that did affect a lot of my thought process. The identity part is complicated and it affects me mainly in two different ways. One, I have a duty to my people to fight for human rights and better conditions and thus educate myself in this manner. Two, it limits my options in many ways; career, places I can visit, jobs I can look for etc.
