It's a backpack. He had to carry his own water, waterbowl and cookies. I got it at a thrift store for $4!

OMG I just looked it up to send you a link. I'm more of a doofus than my dog. It's to carry small dogs, not a backpack for big dogs.

Well, that happened.

I did this when I went carfree a few years back. I regularly took my 18-pound Shih Tsu to the vet and for rides around our small city. Our longest trip was more than 100 miles each way from town up to a recreational area (Diamond Lake in southern Oregon), in one day.

I used a front carry bag (that I actually found at Goodwill! here it is if you're not that lucky.

Napoleon has Doggles and even a helmet (alas just a half helmet). I'll upload a photo in a bit. The Doggles are important if the dog will have his head out at all. Napoleon mostly slept on that long ride, but if he got restless we stopped for a break and I put on his Doggles so he could look out without hurting his eyes.

Perfectly doable for a dog who is used to riding in a bicycle basket, dog stroller, Snoozer backpack, and so on.
