I have always loved OXO stuff. THIS is the can opener my girlfriend has and it is AMAZING. I cannot comment on longevity but it sure seems pretty solid. My parents have an older oxo model that I can't seem find on amazon but it has lasted them forever. The closest I can find is THIS

I have this one by OXO http://www.amazon.com/OXO-58081-Steel-Can-Opener/dp/B00004OCMM/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1367368106&sr=1-2&keywords=oxo+can+opener

It just feels really nice (has a good weight) and hasn't failed me in opening any cans yet. I haven't owned it too long so I can't speak to the longevity of it.

Just buy this and be done with it. It's the best can opener I've ever used in my entire life. I sometimes ask my guests to open cans with it (just to show it off) and they're always amazed by how well it works.

OXO shouyld be fine. I'm using a kitchenaid currently, no idea how it could break, I've been using it for the past 10 years. Before that I used whatever from a garage sale and that never broke either. Not sure how people break so many can openers!

You should get this because you might not think that you need one until you're making spaghetti and don't have one. Also a can opener is super important.

As for my item, anything from my default wishlist would be super helpful (or a gift card to save towards the larger items on there)

Also, you're pretty in a manly giggidywarlock kind of way ;) Congrats on your new house :)

I have had this OXO one for 5 years and it works as well as it did on day one.
