So Albert, our castrated male bunny, has been out on a little adventure that started Friday or late Thursday. He lives in a hutch that he shares with his friend, our girl bunny Lili, on a grassy area behind the garages belonging the apartment buildings we live in. Lili loves digging and there been multiple holes around the bottom part of the hutch (the hutch is this model). So we suspect that Albert, who's not an escape-willing bunny, nevertheless squeezed out of one the holes and went exploring.
Friday morning, when I was going to feed both, Albert was nowhere to be found in the hutch, or in the nearby area, where we let them run free under supervision. We looked for Albert for 2 hrs. straight, we posted about his escape on local Facebook groups, in hopes that someone found him and picked him up, maybe going to work Friday morning (we live close to major commuter route in and out of the city). We looked again multiple times later Friday. But we weren't optismic, since a passerby a week earlier mentioned that there are foxes in the area, and they are very active during springtime. Lili seemed a bit introvert and defensive, so something or someone seemed to have scared her and then taken Albert.
Saturday, we looked again, prior to leaving for an out of town wedding, nothing, no signs of him. At this point we hoped but were less optimistic, also taking into account the cold and snowy spring weather we had had during the previous night.
Early this afternoon we returned home. Lili was sitting in the bottom part of the hutch, we looked around the hutch and in the hedge, hoping he might be outside it, nothing. It was not before looking behind Lili and the small mounds of dirt she had dug up, that we saw Albert sitting in the hutch, as if nothing had happened. He seemed a bit thinner, which is fine though, because he has always been "extra fluffy". Our reaction was shear bafflement at what had transpired the last +48 hrs. Where had he been? Who had taken him or let him free and did the same people return him after regretting haven taking him? He's back though, and now we contemplate putting locks on the hutch, to combat bunny-snatching, and we will proactively cover holes near the edge of the hutch.
