I've been using it on my controllers as preventative maintenance, before they get destroyed.
For a cheap fix, you can try something like Plasti-Dip This is the rubber material used to coat tool handles.
Or for a more professional finish, you can buy soles or soling material and glue and stitch actual soles on the bottom: http://www.algeos.com/acatalog/soles_and_heels.html (Edit: I did a google search and this was the first result, I bet you could find something on Amazon too)
Plastidip them? It should peel off when you need to return them.

Also, worst case scenario if the plain handles aren't feeling too great, you can use either 1/4" heat shrink tubing or Plastidip
I was thinking I'd use Plasti Dip as it should be easy to dip each tip in it.
