Here is the part that I used for my 770 detach:

yours look good but I see the square gap from the stock strain relief showing, and the part linked actually is big enough to cover it, i actually had to dremel a bit to make space. press fit in and a little hot glue to fill the gap.

I do love Beyerdynamic. There's just something about the sound signature that sticks on me. Yes, they're all brighter than Sennheisers. That's what I like about them. To me, that brightness makes them seem "fuller" and more open than the HD6XX that I have.

770 - It's been a while since I've used them without the alpha pads on (which are stupidly comfortable, but change the sound), so i'm a little rusty on what they sound like stock. People exaggerate the amount of bass they have. It's good and solid, but it's never really shaken my head. The highs can get a bit sibilant at time, but it hasn't bothered me that much. They do sound very, very closed though. They don't have good soundstage particularly IMO. But they're fantastic for situations where you can't have sound leakage, which is when I use mine.

880/990 - To me, the 990s and the 880s are very, very similar. I would say that you wouldn't know the difference right away if you were to A/B them. The biggest apparent difference that I could see was the soundstage was a bit bigger on the 990. That would probably be due to the Open vs Semi-Open designs. People say that there's a sharp sibilance on the 990s, but I haven't really noticed it as much as I thought I would. I would highly recommend either of these headphones for desktop setups, particularly the 990 for gaming.

Soundwise, the 880 Premium and Pro versions are identical. However, the biggest difference is the amount of clamping force they apply on your head. I can't wear the Pro for more than 2 hours, whereas the Premium I can wear all day.

Here is a guide that I used for my 770s, but it works just as well for the 880s and 990s. That entire head-fi thread is a goldmine of people going through trial and error methods of doing it. I'd recommend combing through the entire 20 pages before starting anything. If you plan on doing it, I recommend having a decent hand with a soldering iron and a dremel, and using very specifically this jack. It can be a bitch, and a bit scary, but the end result is worth it.

If you want to wait around for a little, I plan on selling the 880 Pros (second from the right in the picture) and the 770s all the way on the left once i finish their detached cables. I'm also selling the furthest left set of DT 880 600ohm Premiums. I could do the mod on them for an extra few dollars if you were interested in that. Sorry to turn this into a selling pitch, just an offer if you wanted it done for you :)

OK, this was a pain in the ass. lol I tried super glue a washer to the jack, but it wasn't quite strong enough. With a little force I could dislodge the washer, and I didn't think it would hold up over time. I had to get a different jack, one that would accommodate a bigger hole.

And if I would have bothered to look up a mod guide for these headphones, it is pretty much the only jack recommended to use because of the issues I ran into. It actually ended up working perfectly, and the fit is so tight no need for any glue or anything.

That's exactly what I mean. You can order the 3.5mm connector off of Amazon. Pull the pad off and unscrew the driver. De-solder the factory cable and remove the clip that holds it in place remove the cable. You'll need to use a small file to slightly enlarge the hole for the new connector. You can solder the wires directly to the new connector, or leave them connected to the pcb and connect the 3.5mm connector to that. Reassemble and voila, you can use the vmoda or whatever cable you'd like with a 3.5mm end. https://i.imgur.com/rj0mob9.jpg

They have another one with a nut instead of the snap clips that might work as well, but I haven't tried that one

Typically the outside of those jacks (that is, where it touches the case) IS part of the circuit, and that would cause interference. There are some built specifically for this, like this, but they are much more expensive than the regular ones.
