There's been some pieces out in the last couple of years about communism, Big Data, and the "surveillance state."
This book review for Postcapitalism sums up its argument:
> He does not go as far as to endorse “cyber Stalinism” but at the very least poses its thesis: What if the problem with the Soviet Union was that it was too early? What if our computer processing power and behavioral data are developed enough now that central planning could outperform the market when it comes to the distribution of goods and services?

Yes this is a reasonable analysis of fascism. It's also important to note that fascism, while unanimously authoritarian and unanimously validates violence, is not unanimously racially driven. Mussolini's mistress was Jewish. The Brazilian Integralists were explicitly not concerned with race and the present day American Blackshirts also aren't focused on race.

Fascism in one form or another is likely to come to America. And this is because democratic capitalism evolved into neo-liberalism. And neo-liberalism created a different and worse society for the average American than those living in the 1945-1972 post war era. Fascism will most likely start with piecemeal policies like UBI, which necessitates soft nationalism. The only people benefitting in the current neo-liberal world arrangement are manufacturers who can exploit third world labor or technologists who act as mercenaries for a handful of winner-take-all firms like google, facebook, etc. But this pool is small and shrinking every day.

When non-democratic Capitalism such as Russia and China start offering better living standards to citizens than Europe and Americans our system will be challenged. Neo-Liberalism cannot survive in the long term. I just finished reading this Postcapitalism: A Guide to Our Future. It outlines how the current system is pretty much doomed to fall apart within the next 5-10 years. You can also see a video on this here.

At some point in the future technologists children are likely to be kidnapped and killed in the same way that rich castizos are regularly kidnapped in Mexico. We've already seen cases of normal people attacking techie busses in San Francisco. Ironically this is poor liberals attacking rich liberals. But that's how fascism starts. Many left-wing communists eventually joined the Nazi party when the Nazi's proved they were better organized at delivering real changes. The classical economic focused left-wing was usurped by liberals focused on non-economic issues. This means the only remaining people that can and will tackle economic issues with be the far right.
