It's super easy to install and code compliant.
If that is the case then I would consider purchasing a number of the in-wall cable management gangs and running the wires though the walls as close to their intended location.

Also, since you already have power running there, you can look for this type of in wall management system, and simply widen the existing holes.
So in New Jersey legally, you are not supposed to run power cords like that or for a TV (or any power cords really) inside dry wall. You are supposed to use something like this - PowerBridge.
It's because the standard plug is not code compliant to be inside a wall but those kinds of PowerBridge kits do run code compliant electrical wire. The way that it was explained to me was, if a fireman has to chop at your wall in order to save someone, having a non code compliant wire in the wall could harm him/her and you could get sued for it.
Nitronine pretty much covered it, but to add, I used this as a way to route power from an existing outlet through the wall up behind the tv. And once that's in place, it makes for easy hdmi routing too. I'm super picky about cable management, so this was a must

you can put your power outlet and media pass through in the bottom edge of it, too.

you can get a tiny 2 channel amp and strap it to the back of the tv.
how are you going to recess something wider than 16" into the wall?

you'll only need power at the media cabinet.
They sell UL-rated kits for this that meet electrical code in most jurisdictions. This is an example of what I'm referring to, though I can't speak to this product specifically.
