Yeah, googling I can't find any quite like mine - it's similar to this or this, but I would say the inner sleeve on mine is deeper. Mine only has about 1cm of water beneath the inner container, and you just cover the rice with boiling water when you put it in the microwave. By the time it's finished much of the water has been absorbed &/or boiled away, and the second half of the cooking process is steam only. I usually give it 12 minutes total; halfway through I rinse the rice with hot water from the kettle, and pour out the gunky water from the bottom, replacing it with 1cm of fresh boiling water; then I put it back into finish the remaining 6 minutes.

This Amazon reviewer seems to like another kind.

I can't believe /r/frugal is recommending electronic gadgets - some of them at $100 - $200 - when these microwaves rice cookers are so good. I was given mine years ago, and it's still good as new, I use long grain rice and it always turns out perfect. Maybe I had a bit of trouble getting used to it the first few times, and I've honed my technique now and it's really easy.

its okay. im terrible when it comes to crock pot foods as well but ive heard of people making chili in them. I read this list a couple of months ago with the top 10 crock pot recipes and decided to try one before I had the baby and it was TERRIBLE. it smelled great at first but 2 hours in apparently all the sauce dried up (it was suppose to be bbq chicken) and it went from smelling like bbq to vomit. im not kidding. my husband walked in and thought I had been sick. this page has a bunch of different chili recipes and this one looks good and is topped with avocado. I like chili because its sort of like the burritos and you can add or subtract ingredients based on your needs.

here is a little steamer and its inexpensive. you def need to add veggies to your diet. do you like anything raw? can you have fruit?

well for the first time in my life im keeping a journal and in that I'm writing down everything I eat. honestly, its been great. its keeping me from going 'oh i'll just have a couple chips' then realizing I ate 1/2 the bag. I lost 2lbs since last week by not eating fast food.

whomp whomp :( I was far away from trader joes in my old apartment and hated it. my MIL kept trying to me to shop at whole foods which sucked. maybe you could try and venture out sometime this week or weekend to the amish store and just pick up some fresh veggies and stuff. kind of kill 2 birds with 1 stone. get some fresh veggies and get out and about.

ive never tried mio but I don't drink anything with aspartame which im pretty sure crystal light has. I pretty much drink water or fruit juices. I use to drink water with a little bit of lemon and it took away from the plainness of water. I need to increase the amount of liquids I have as well which is always like playing a big game of "catch up" to me.

A microwave steamer!! That would really increase my diet capabilities. It's so much quicker to nuke something than to watch over a hot bot of boiling water, and poke food with a fork.
