I'm not sure what you mean by "overflowed in the pump". Did it keep going out the bottom or did it come out the side (where the hose is attached) and just miss the hose or did it shoot out the top (where it connects to the faucet)? When you want to fill, make sure you have pushed and twisted to lock the bottom of the pump up or else it will just continue to flow out of the bottom.
Yes, there are a few different adapters that can connect them. You could get an adapter with a female threaded end to twist onto the Python faucet pump piece and a barb on the other side to attach the hose. You could also just get the official Python piece that you're talking about:
