Ram actually makes a way more secure mount that lets you mount and retrieve your phone just as quick

(though you'll need to attach the rubber ball to the back, sucks that it doesn't come bundled)

Basically the 2 bottom pegs are fixed in place, the 4 side pegs are adjustable but screwed down to be fixed in place, and the top 2 pegs are spring loaded to maintain constant tension on your phone. Not as cool looking as the X grip but a much more secure product.

Pretty pricey for the whole setup since you have to buy 2 balls and an extension, but definitely worth it. Very sturdy and never lost a phone with ir.

Skip the X-grip mount, it's more expensive than the Ram mount specifically made to not let go of a phone at speed. I also picked up the ball mount that replaces a handlebar clamp bolt, and I run the phone mount there if I'm going to do it.

Keep in mind that if your phone has optical image stabilization built into the camera, it's likely a bad idea to mount it to the bike. Lots of reports of folks having borked cameras from the vibrations.

Find a way to mount a RAM ball to the bike. I like this guy personally.

After that, get something to hold your phone that works with a RAM mount. The X-Grip is super popular, however, I did a lot of research before buying and read loads of reviews from people who lost their phone on the highway, or had the thing twisting and turning every which way, and so on. Many people use it and seem happy with it but it's a big YMMV situation, and it made me shy on that product.

While I can't say for certain if the problems I read about the X-Grip are true, I can tell you that after a legit 60,000 miles with 2 different phones mounted in [THIS] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0088LL7UA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage) mount, at a combination of city and highway, into potholes and over speed bumps, not once has my phone ever even wiggled. I have the utmost confidence in this thing. The only caveat is that you should use a TPU or hybrid style case because this is just hard plastic, so have something to save you from scratches and so on.

To go along with it you will need one of these for the back of the phone holder. You will also need a RAM arm, I use (and prefer) a 3 inch arm but they make 6 inch and other more complicated contraptions if that doesn't do it for you.

It's not exactly cheap. At the moment, from Amazon, that will cost you about $43 shipped (edit: before tax). However, I will say that this is exact setup has never failed me in 60,000 miles spread between multiple motorcycles and with 2 different phones of decent size. For your reference, those phones were a Galaxy S5 in an Otterbox Commuter and a Sony Xperia Z3+ in a clear Spidgen case. The mount does have room to grow a bit bigger than these if you need it, but not by a lot.

Good luck and happy riding! =)

Edit: Forgot to offer to take pics of the setup on my bike. If you wanna see it all together first, I can do that, just drop a reply.

I use this RAM mount, but I would suggest this one if your phone can fit it. My Nexus 6P is too large for it, but when I had my G4, that fucker wasn't going ANYWHERE with this.

I used these vibration dampers between my spring-loaded RAM phone holder and the diamond-shaped ball adapter plate. It worked pretty well for a 7,000 mile trip I took on an Africa Twin last summer (mostly paved, some dirt and off-road), although I did end up having the phone replaced due to recurring dust spots on the camera. I really just try to limit how often I mount the phone there, and use a Garmin nüvi for navigation.

You will also need to get the following items:

Ram ball diamond plate: this is so you can mount the phone holder to the arm

Ram arm: so you can adjust the orientation of the mount, they sell many lengths.

Ram mount: this is the final ball which you mount to your bike. They have handle bar balls, the have ones that mount under your mirror, they have ones that mount to the brake master, and so on. Use the RAM website to find all these things, and then Google the part number for the cheapest prices!

Happy riding!

I use that mount. You'll have to buy the ram ball, Clamps, and u bolt mount or whatever you want to use separately. But the phone mount is awesome! The top is spring loaded and hooks on the phone. It's super secure. Don't use the x mount, they're okay for in the car but not good for a motorcycle. With the one above there is no way it can fall out, but it's also quick to insert your phone into it, and take it out. If you're interested I can try to take a photo of mine with my phone in it, the Amazon photo doesn't do it justice.

I have this for my motorcycle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0088LL7UA/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_wArIxbJQKQRQK

Warning though. I bought this for my old lg g4. It's not designed to hold the nexus correctly. 2 of the side notches I can't have installed in order for it to be able to take my phone at all, thus making the only safe way to orient the phone is landscape. But it does work. This phone is not going anywhere.
