I have a sand colored half-zip shirt that I was issued that is quite warm. I’d send a pic but we just moved and it’s still packed away (but I need to find it for winter). I have both wool and synthetic, and run/hike/backpack/camp in both. Both are fine. Wool excels for multi-day trips because it doesn't hold the stink; even treated synthetics stink eventually. But for one run, that's not a consideration...it's just personal preference.
I run in merino tops sometimes, but one of my favorite warm shirts is actually one of the cheapest...the military issue waffle shirt.
