All used all over Asia, all hot as hell. Particularly Tiger Balm. As a beginner I recommend you try Salonpas.
The area you marked in your diagram is roughly the lumbar and sacral region of your low back. It may be a strain or muscle spasm. Gentle stretching, warm wet heat (like soaking in a tub, then do gentle stretching) plus or minus applying ice, topical agents like Salonpas. Remain active, sitting or lying in one place for extended time tends to make it worse. Use anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen or Naproxen according to the labelled directions.
If it is not improving in two weeks or significantly worsens, or develops other accompanying symptoms, like fever, then make an appointment to be further evaluated. It is very common and usually goes away over time. It very rarely means there is something serious underlying the problem
