I use one of those japanese scrubber towels (basically like a towel made of that plastic loofah material) instead of a standard "poofy" loofah. It allows me to reach my back better and doesn't get nearly as scummy because it can be fully rinsed out and hung to dry completely between uses. It's easy enough to disinfect if needed (just soak it in a little bleach water and rinse it out), so they last a really long time.
I have bumpy chicken skin or I should say had, and also ingrown hair from shaving. Not sure why only recently I decided to look it up and actively try to fix it but I found out it's best to exfoliate often and moisturize often.
Like you I've tried lots of different exfoliating things before but didn't really help. Then I came across a little Japanese grocery store in my neighborhood and saw they were selling washcloth but man it felt so stiff and harsh that it'd rub your skin raw! But it was $4 so I bought it anyway.
It takes some getting used to since it is very rough. But once you get used to it, it feels great! And all the bumpy skin on the back of my arms are gone. Most of the ones on my legs are staring to come to head as I'm now focusing on them. I still don't moisturize as often as I should but thank goodness the water isn't as hard here so my skin isn't as dry either.
This Japanese wash cloth isn't the same brand as what I have but a lot of good reviews too and it does seem to be similar. Hope that helps.
I got shit to do, so I'm out as fast as possible while still being thorough. Arms, torso, crotch, legs, face, back, hair every other day, done.
Also, I HIGHLY highly highly recommend one of these. Want the best back scrub you'll ever give yourself, period the end full stop? Get this Japanese scrubby wash towel thingy. It will change your life. Imagine your entire back being scratched simultaneously.

you can find them at most places that sell bath products. after exfoliating I use a body scrub w salicylic acid & it works like a charm
