> SD cards are unreliable and slow

As a digital camera owner, I promise you, sd cards are not slow, you just buy slow sd cards.

In digital photography when you have a big ass 18MP camera chugging through 5+ shots a second, you need a way to empty that camera cache into the ext storage fast enough to prevent the cache from filling and the shutter speed from dropping to barely a couple shots per second.

Next time you look at an sd card, you'll notice it has a number with a circle around it which describes the class. The class is a rough identifier for its speed. It goes from Class 1 - 10, and now we have a UHS-1 identifier which is a U with a 1 in it, for the highest speed. source

For example: This $12 16GB Sandisk Class 2 will push a minimum of 2MB/s but this $15 16GB Sandisk Class10/UHS1 will push a minimum of 50MB/s.

Despite there only being a $3 price difference, there is a 25X performance difference.

TL;DR: The type of sdcard you buy matters heavily if you want performance from the card.

  • Caveat 1: I listed spec speeds, not real world speeds. Your mileage will vary heavily based on device and clock speed of memory
  • Caveat 2: Only some Android devices support UHS sd cards, and it's recommended to not use them in unsupported devices.

Don't upgrade if you don't have troubles playing your games, if it aint broken don't fix it I say, 6.20 here and I can play pretty much anything.

Also I'm using the same adapter, but with the sandisk cards shown here, try formatting them after inserting the adapter with both of them inside, you can format them via the system settings.

No problem. I'm glad I could help. You only need to worry about storing more games. I can recommend a cheaper method than buying a regular pro duo memory stick.

Memory Stick Adapter $3.71

Micro SD 16 GB $9.09

If your PSP doesn't detect the memory stick, you will need to format it on your computer to a FAT format. Then, format it on your PSP and you will be ready to go.

If you don't mind something small and basic, the Sansa Clip+ just came out and it's dirt cheap. It may not be all big and fancy like an iPod Touch, but it's been getting great reviews. I'm about to buy one for myself. You can get the 4 gb model for $50, and then add a 16gb Micro SD for about $40-50. 20gb player, and $100 left over.

Oh me too man. Btw, would you mind taking a look at the micro sd/adapter combo i'll soon be purchasing? Id'e like to have your opinion on it. Like whether it will be capable of providing the same level of excellence that yours does. Id'e totally appreciate that opinion.

I just ordered one of these:

Works like a charm in my Focus after I did a firmware reset. The phone is recognizing 22.02 GB of storage.

UPDATE T+24h:
Today I found my phone had powered off in my pocket, and wouldn't turn back on until I pulled the battery and replaced it. I can't prove causation, but I've had the phone about 1 week and it never locked up prior to the MicroSD insertion.

Only a sucker buys the memory chips in stores; amazon.com gets you a 16gb chip for $15 while an 8gig card cost $20.

A 16GB microSD such as this would easily do the trick.
