I have the Clip+ and it can last all day playing music. It charges via USB->mini usb so as long as you have the cable and like an ipod charger you will be fine. It can hold a 32GB micro SD card giving you a total of 36GB of storage if you get the 4GB base model. You can get a 32GB card for under $20 now too. Thats a total price of about $60 for 36GB of storage and an MP3 player. The card can go in most smartphones too to expand storage.
Be aware though, these sometimes go on "refurb" sales where they get large stocks of refurbished models. I got my Clip+ from Amazon as a refurb for $17. So if you can wait and score that you can get a very cheap MP3 player.
Just found the red Clip+ 4gb version is being sold by Amazon for $23 used in like new condition.
That makes it like $45 for a 36GB mp3 player if you combine the SD card. I think its a decent deal.
You dont even need winamp to manage the files. If you know how to navigate file directories pretty well then you can manage it by dragging and dropping files. Like the other guy said you can modify it by installing Rockbox firmware but only do this if you like messing around with techy stuff. I did it and it works fine but there are bugs every now and then.
I think they are all around better than the low end iPods that cost 4x as much but its going to be up to you to decide if it fits your needs. Oh and they have a clip on the back to attach to clothing for running with or taking to the gym. End of rant.
Should be coming in the mail on wednesday! A friend of mine really likes it though, says it's cheap and not having to deal with itunes is great. But I'll let you know if it's a safe bet when I receive and test it out.
