What's your opinion on this?
I know it's not a red, but I haven't seen many opinions on the archive drive inside it (I think it's 5900RPM).
The Seagate 8TB backup plus hub is now £134.99 at amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01IAD5ZC6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_TBagAbTA711KV
The reviews are not complimentary. Apparently there are two disks in there.

Shuck them, job done...
I was about to pull the trigger on a couple of Seagate 8TB units from Amazon UK for pretty much the same price at £129.99 but would this be a better drive to shuck? Looks like I still get free shipping to UK.
I don’t have an easy answer for you. I have been looking for an 8TB drive for some time now myself, and have spent far too much time comparing options. I would love to hear everyone’s opinion!
I also haven’t looked that much at encryption, hopefully someone here knows more about that part.

This is what I bought
I started off with a 1TB external, which I quickly realised was too small, so I sold it to a friend and got a 4TB. My 4TB was over 80% full, so last week I bought an 8TB - one of these: -

8TB is overkill for most people, but I was thinking ahead to Scorpio as I should be able to use the same drive with that. Also, I like having all the games I own installed.

Also on amazon same price for EU shipping
In the UK you can get the Seagate Backup Plus Hub 8TB for ~£180 from a few places. From what I read they contain Seagate Archive 8TB drives, which may not suit your usage scenario, but it's a pretty decent price for 8TB (£22.50/TB).
Also the Seagate 8TB is at 181€.

does that mean a 1.5A power brick plug would work fine with it?
the power brick plug that came with this drive was 3A output
I was looking at this...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-Backup-Desktop-External-Integrated/dp/B01IAD5ZC6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499764859&sr=8-1&keywords=seagate+8tb
I've got 2 of the 5tb expansion drives from seagate which seem sound enough!
This is the one I have, though I bought it second hand from CeX for £135.
My only gripe is that it need to be plugged into the wall because it doesn't take power through USB, but it's otherwise been fine and fairly quiet.
You know if it would be a better choice than the Backup Plus for a use as an external HDD for PC backup? That is currently down to £135 but went as low as £120 during the primeday sales.
