I have about 700 7,000 hours on 16 of these drives without a single failure.

Don't know why you are paying so much for a 3tb drive.

edit: 7,000 not 700.

Cheaper than buying the HDD alone.

  • 4TB Seagate Backup Plus Portable 2.5" = $109.99
  • 4TB Seagate 2.5" = $179.50

(ST4000LM024 is the newer drive that's found in the Backup Plus Portable).

There are 4 TB 2.5" hard drives and actually even 5 TB. At 15 mm, they're a little too thick to fit into a PS4 without modifications, but it has been done.

So i found a 2.5" Barracuda

But IDK anything about this drive.

In addition to getting a databank for regular 3.5 HDD/Hybrids, you could consider just upgrading to a straight up [2.5 HDD](http://www.Seagate.com/ 4TB Barracuda Sata 6GB/s 128MB Cache 2.5-Inch 15mm Internal Bare/OEM Hard Drive (ST4000LM024) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZMUNGR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Rd6yybP017GBW).

While is it quite easy to upgrade the internal HDD, it is very expensive to upgrade to a 4TB internal drive since the maximum PS4 drive thickness is 9.5mm.

Current 4TB 2.5" spinning HDDs are 15mm thick (such as the Seagate BaraCuda 4TB 2.5" HDD).

4TB SSDs can be thinner than 9.5mm (such as the Samsung EVO 860 4TB drive at 7mm), but cost over $700 US.

I am shucking STDR4000100's. There's an older-ish article on them. They now have the newer SKU of internal drive, ending in 24 instead of 16, no longer the exact same as article but might as well be. They are low wattage and run cool which is nice.

le edit: There's a 5TB model now too. Can't personally vouch for them, but same enclosure so they're shuckable. Is almost certainly a ST5000LM000 internally.

If you want to use one these types of external enclosures:
https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Sabrent-2-5-Inch-Enclosure-EC-UK30/dp/B00LS31KQG/
or an Xbox One fitted solution: https://www.amazon.com/Collective-Minds-Drive-Enclosure-Front-Ports/dp/B00T76ZGDO/

Then this drive is basically your only option at the 4TB size: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barracuda-2-5-Inch-Internal-ST4000LM024/dp/B01LZMUNGR/
No one else seems to be making 2.5" 4TB hard drives, not HGST, Toshiba, Western Digital and etc.

So any 4TB drive at the 2.5 inch size is going to be probably going to Seagate.

I did find a WD My Passport Ultra in the 4TB size on Newegg: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1K65850201 (no idea if that's any good for you, you're going to have to check with the WD rep)

External enclosure = a shell that holds the hard drive, these do not come with a drive.
External hard drive = a shell + a hard drive.

---

If you can do 3.5 inch drives at 4 TB you will have far more choices as to what brand and model of drive you have to work with.
You can use either a drive of your choice and an external enclosure or an external hard drive. But of course there may be demerits that I mentioned in my previous comment if you intend to take the drive with you on the go.

Or if 1TB or 2TB is enough for you, you can find many more drives from different manufacturers at the 2.5" size.

Note: I only checked Amazon and Newegg big box stores and less known sites may have older drives in the 4TB size

First...I'd actually recommend a slow transition to 2.5" HDDs. That might actually be one of the largest limitations on space savings. Going to a 2.5" 3TB hard drive would remove A BUNCH of space...

Actually - go for 4TB, as it's about the same price.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZMUNGR/ref=twister_B01MUH2ARG?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

But it also eats in to your budget. If you consider adding another HDD to your budget, then it makes it a little less painful.

Wait...x2 on the windforce - as in SLI?

I got a lightly used in excellent working condition, Seagate 4TB Barracuda 2.5" (15mm height) Internal Hard Drive Link. Condition 10/10. Shipped for only $85. Lemme know.

Quick update: I installed a 4TB Seagate Baracuda 2.5" spinning disk (http://amzn.to/2k5X7kQ) and a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OBRE5UE) in the Mac mini server replacing the two original 500GB disks. I followed the iFixit instructions: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+Mac+Mini+Mid+2011+Dual+Hard+Drive+Kit/6634

The 4TB disk is taller than the original drives so it is "free floating" in the second drive mounting. Everything still fit fine, however I had to refold the 4TB disk's cable to get it to reseat in its connector.

I tried the fusion drive using the instruction from https://www.macworld.com/article/2014011/storage-drives/how-to-make-your-own-fusion-drive.html. The first go did not work. The High Sierra USB installer failed (https://www.macworld.com/article/3204672/macs/how-to-create-a-bootable-macos-high-sierra-installer-drive.html). I deleted and recreated the fusion drive, then did the High Sierra install using the ⌥⌘R at boot method.

It worked! Total time for the hardware upgrade through to working macOS install was about 5.5 hours. The machine is purring along beautifully. It feels faster. So far there are no issues with the fusion drive setup.

I have a future plan of buying these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZMUNGR/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2O34QSZ7F0A8&colid=37SZIQ2V2B3W2&psc=1

..and using 5.25 to 2.5 drive docks (like the IcyDock) for a smaller footprint.
