No idea what that website is all about but it seems to be refering to Amazon... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-Surround-Sound-Gaming-Headset/dp/B01IBORI2O was also £76 a week ago.

edit: "We’re an Amazon Affiliate" another spam bot huh

  1. Logitech is garbage for audio. They're cheap for a reason. Do NOT buy Logitech audio unless you like throwing away money.

  2. Do you absolutely need 5.1? Why not something lower but higher quality? I mostly use my Sennheiser PC 363D headset for gaming but I also have JBL LSR305 speakers which are amazing too. I have one speaker on each side of my desk, pointing slightly towards the middle where I sit, and they're great for gaming. You can even add a center speaker if you want.

  3. If you're gaming, why not use a good headset instead of speakers? It's way easier to hear where players are with headphones versus speakers. I would recommend the Sennheiser PC 373D (Amazon link) as they're amazing for gaming and come with a removable DAC attached. I have the older 363D model and it's by far, the best headphone/headset I've ever used for gaming.

  4. HDMI and TOSLINK are not what you want to use for audio.

  5. Have you checked out /r/audiophile and /r/budgetaudiophile? There's a list on the sub that tells you the best setups for X amount of money. Check our those subs if you haven't already. This sub is pretty dead so those two subs will have more help.

I'm definitely not an audiophile, I actually rarely ever listen to music but I do spend 4-6hrs a day gaming or watching tv/movies. Before I did much research I fell into the trap of buying a gaming headset and bought the wireless Corsair Void RGB 7.1 surround sound. They're not bad especially for the price ($45 from a coworker) but lately I've been wanting to invest into something that gives me more of a competitive advantage in fps games with a better soundstage.

I bought the Open-Back Virtual 7.1 Sennheiser 373D which I've been using for the past week and have been liking. The open back experience wasn't a huge change for me but it's still a quality headset I believe. With blackfriday sales going on I've also been looking at the HyperX Cloud II's on sale for $65 and the Arctis 7's for $100. I know people say not to use virtual 7.1 but I really do find it helps in locating players who may be above or below you in a building.

Alternatively, I just recently discovered modmic which opens up the possibility for more audiophile headphones since I was against a desktop mic before and was considering trying out Beardynamic DT990 or a nicer pair of open-back Sennheiser like the HD6xx or similar.

Are you looking specifically for gaming headphones? Normally those will include features like surround sound, etc. Or are you looking for something more generic that produces great sound everywhere (but not necessarily the best for gaming)? (Personally I feel these features are a bit of a gimmick and overall sound quality is much more desirable)

If the later, in that price range I'm a huge fan of Sennheiser's HD line, specifically the HD 559 or HD579. Both of these are open-back, so they're not sound isolating at all and produce a very crisp airy sound. The entire line is insanely comfortable and great for wearing for extended periods. I use a pair at work for 7+ hours, and then come home and use them again for another 4+ hours every day.

They do also offer a "gaming" headset w/ mic with surround sound but the same comfort style: PC 373D. I've used this in the past and can highly recommend it, but it's a bit out of your price range, but something to keep in mind. The 559 and 579 will basically give you the same sound quality but without the mic/surround.

Right now, my computer is in the living room so my fiancée would kill me if she heard a bunch of gunshots and stuff coming from my headphones. I think closed might be the better option.

You don't like the Sennheiser PC 373D? Those are on sale for $199

I can also do the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x with a Mic and the Omni

If you have a higher budget, I'd recommend these or these. I have the predecessor to the PC373 (the PC363d) bought in June of 2014, still going strong. They sound amazing (I think the drivers are similar to the HD 598, or the HD 558), and the mic is fantastic. Build quality has also held up perfectly. Current pricing is all time low, but still not cheap.

I've seen these two headsets recommended as the best out there: Sennheiser GAME ONE

and
Sennheiser PC 373D - 7.1 Surround Sound

Would you be able to tell me the differences between these two headsets?

They're more comparable to the Sennheiser 373D

I have a couple of suggestions for you based on the Sennheiser line with different categories for you to pick from.

First off, if you would want a gaming headset with a great sound capability and a powerful boom mic, I would recommend the PC 373D, Sennheiser's latest product in their gaming line. Albeit much more expensive than other gaming headset in the market, that is to be noted.

Secondly, if you would want an audiophile grade headset yet not overly over the top expensive, go with the HD 598 CS. This is the closed back version of the original 598 with improve head paddings and overall build quality, great for long gaming sessions.

Lastly, if you prefer the full Sennheiser experience, the HD 600/650 is your pick. Although still in the $300-$400 price range it is worth it if you don't want to pay $500+ for better ones yet still get the similar good sound quality.
