Get a good stereo headset or headphones with an optical grade A headphone amp.
This will receive some massive hate in the non audiophileart of reedit but if you can afford it good stereo headsets will give you far superior sound when compared to 5.1 or 7.1 headsets.
Games like bf4 are designed for stereo output which still gives you just as much situational awareness but without the loss of audio quality. 5.1 and 7.1 headsets do not perform the same way a speaker setup would due to the location of the drivers being right in your ear. Also the drivers suffer in quality when they are cramming that many into a headset.
Unfortunately most your gaming headsets at 7.1 or 5.1 have pretty bad drivers for the amount of money they charge and they rely on their software to distort and simulate surround sound when most games are designed for stereo or theater 5.1where there is a much greater spacial difference between each speaker.
Your brain is perfectly capable of distinguishing sound in stereo and most modern games are best heard with a proper stereo setup.
If you have even crummy stereo ear plugs or headphones put them on and listen to this.

As a gamer whobplays on console and PC I use a Peachtree inova DAC/amp and sennheiser hd650s with my consoles and PC. I have tried most gaming headsets and they sit in my storage closet or have been given away because I can't take the degraded audio quality that they produce.

All these were a huge let down but this is from the perspective of someone who is used to exceptional audio.
If your price point is low then the sennheiser 320s are a great set for only $42 on sale at amazon.

I have owned two pairs of Beaches the X11 and X1 when playing on the Xbox. IMO the sound quality is nothing compared to some good cheap headsets like Sennheisers. Currently on the pc Im using the PC 320 by Senn and they are amazing! I have a pair of studio senns as well and the quality difference is nothing. You say that like having a gaming headset and having a pair of headphones that produce good quality sound are mutually exclusive.
If you even did a little research you'd find that all of the respected headphone (audio technica, beyerdynamic, sennheiser) brands also produce headsets for a variety of budgets.
