What I did (and still do) to save money is kind of stupid in its simplicity. I am horrible about saving money, partly because I just don't "care" about money as an object. I bought a drop box deposit safe (where you insert the money in an envelope) that requires two keys to open it. I leave one key at work and one key at home. This stops me from my impulse purchases and requires action on my part to take money out of it. It also prevents me from spending that money on the weekend too. It's one of the best decisions I've made in quite sometime. Also I must mention that I bought #11 envelopes for it too as I figured out that I could fish the money out of the safe if I tried. So I bought the envelopes before putting any money in since I know how I operate. Anyway, different strokes for different folks.

Edit: If anyone wants to see what I used, it's this. $68 off of Amazon. I've been satisfied with it so far but it's a metal box that locks so I'm not sure what I could be dissatisfied with.

I manage a restaurant. I get $500-$700 a month in tips, and when I get home, I shovel it into a SentrySafe Drop Safe

At the end of the month I pull it all out and deposit it at my local Credit union and then transfer it into my bank.

I carry $0 in cash the vast majority of the time. I don't feel it's safe, and I'm a whore for credit card rewards. I use an elephant wallet so I wouldn't really have much room to if I wanted to.
