I wholeheartedly disagree with the above, above poster. You can learn a lot while training on your own, but you can only test it in live battle with another opponent to improve your mistakes, and get used to the timing and feel of battle. But there's a lot you can do on your own such as conditioning, shadowboxing, and learning the principles behind different techniques. I heard my old teacher say that as much as we practiced in the Dojo, we had to practice at home too if we wanted to get better. While you do want to seek out the Dojo practice with a teacher when you have the time/money, there is plenty you can still do at home to make yourself into a better person and a better fighter or "martial artist". So that being said here are a few links.

  • Solo Training 2 by Loren W. Christensen

  • The Mixed Martial Arts Instruction Manual: Striking - Anderson Silva

I would also recommend DVDs as that's a good way to learn because you can see them performing the movements.

    I recommend

Anderson Silva - Boxing For MMA

Learn to Fight and Win With Frank Shamrock - Volume 1: Power Striking Every volume in this series has something to look for.

Also do you use torrents? There are some good resources out there for instructional videos.

Also where are you (generally) and what's your budget like? Finding a place to train might be doable for you and would be a huge benefit. Like basically, I think training only alone or only with others is incomplete and you need to do both to really progress. But if you can only do one then get started! Like other's have said though be careful especially when striking or grappling live with an untrained opponent as you can injure yourself. Particularly when you're hitting the heavy bag, snapping your punches out full power, pivoting for kicks, or if you're wrestling with your boys. It's an easy way to get hurt without a qualified instructor and especially if you're untrained. So take what you learn with a grain of salt and be ready to refine your technique when you get into an actual Dojo. But other than that, no reason why you can't get started getting better today!

I'm having trouble finding the original article but here's a quote from it by Jon Jones the current and longest reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion http://fightlinker.com/jon-jones-the-other-kind-of-youtube-sensation/

    Good luck with your training!
