Any of the 1970s era Godzilla film are specifically made for a children as the primary audience.

I would start with earlier stuff, to be honest. I know one user is suggesting Final Wars, but that movie is PG-13 for a reason, and it's actually devoid of monster action despite the large monster cast. It's a film that he might like when he's 10 and older and can appreciate kung-fu movies.

The cheapest used copies on Amazon currently go for about $50.

But Criterion might be releasing it and a lot of other classic Godzilla movies on blu-ray in the next year or two. They have obtained the streaming rights to these movies and had them available to watch on the Filmstruck streaming service. Criterion has expressed interest in obtaining home media rights too but they haven't officially announced anything yet.

...yeah price gouging runs rampant with these movies. Used copies aren't always bad, but check the links for new prices, it's ridiculous.

Does anybody know if it's possible to get this movie on DVD for a reasonable price? It's literally hundreds dollars on Amazon. Same with Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. They were also available as a 3 disc combo pack with Tokyo SOS, but that's not even available to buy.

It looks like they were only released on DVD for the "50th anniversary collection" when Final Wars came out, and they haven't been reissued since.
