Hi u/RealHedgeFund - the type of lav you need depends on your budget and what you're recording to:
So if you want the ability to plug a lav into a phone and/or a laptop, you'll either need multiple mics - or you'll need something "complicated" with "accessories" that allow you to convert your output from TRRS to TRS mono and back again.
Hope this is helpful and good luck!
P.S. All of that said, this question is probably more appropriate for r/videography than r/filmmakers
After about 4 hours of searching, I'm almost positive it's the Sony ECM-44. If not, it could be the ECM-55 or ECM-66. But I'm nearly certain it's the 44.
Yup! The Sony ECM44 is decent - I have a couple of those and I THINK a higher end one, maybe the ECM55 or something, can't recall and can't find it but it's a higher number - no difference in quality though. You can also find cheaper sets around with decent reviews too - depending on your budget. [FYI those are referral links]. I haven't used a lav under $40 that's worth buying again to be honest - had those Sony ones for nearly 8 years now and still going strong, and I do testimonial/interview stuff all the time. Hope that helps!
