I would go for a case. I went with this one. It fits beautifully and isn't bulky. Also knowing it is protected feels nice in case it drops hard one day or something

Adding my thoughts here as another data point, even though it seems to be covered and confirmed. Pixel 3a in a Spigen case (mentioned in another post, not the same case, and it doesn't cover the top mic, but thought I'd mention). I didn't notice the whine in videos before this post but it's definitely there, recording in a quiet room and playing back at full volume. Turning off Now Playing reduced the whine noise significantly. I still here a slight hiss but that's probably just room noise. I didn't notice any change when taking the case off.

What about this one? I just got mine and it's a very soft matte feel, maybe too think for what you're looking for?

It works fine with my Spigen Rugged Armor. https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Rugged-Armor-Designed-Google/dp/B07MJ7V552/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=spigen+pixel+3a&qid=1558489689&s=gateway&sr=8-2

I had the Nexus 6P version of that case, and loved it. When I got the Pixel 3a, it was what I looked for.

I've got the on-call phone for the week (but I get 2 weeks of dogsitting for giving up my weekend), and the on-call phone is a Pixel 2. They bought the Spigen Tough Armor for it, and it works with the squeeze function, but I don't like kickstands. The one my Samsung GS3 case had broke.

In case anyone wants to see what the Spigen TPU case and Supershieldz protectors look on the 3a.

I ordered this case

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MJ7V552/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and protector

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NRW5PZX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

after purchasing the 3a from Google Fi.

The case feels great, the cut-outs are perfect, and the phone's power/volume buttons remain just as 'clicky.'

Perhaps Supershieldz manufactured the protectors a little small to make sure there wouldn't be an issue if the 3a had curved bezels. I haven't had a large sample size of protectors to review so I don't know if this is a standard size or not.

Cheers

My wife and I each bought a Pixel 3a this weekend. According to FedEx tracking, the phones should arrive on Tuesday.

I bought this 4-pack of screen protectors after checking other listings from the seller on Fakespot and ReviewMeta: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NZLGWGH/

We both decided on this case after scrolling through the list of available cases and not being thrilled with any of the available choices: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PPVHWPN/

I may switch to this Spigen case later on (but it wasn't in stock yet and won't be until 5/24): https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Rugged-Armor-Designed-Google/dp/B07MJ7V552/

I'll try to remember to pop back in once we receive our phones next week and have an opportunity to apply the screen protectors and put the phones in the cases.

I'll 2nd the Spigen recommendation. I had a Spigen on my Pixel 2 and just got one for the Pixel 3.

This is the one I JUST got today:

There is one for the 3a that looks just like the one I had on my Pixel 2 that I enjoyed... https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Rugged-Armor-Designed-Google/dp/B07MJ7V552/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=pixel+3+case+otterbox&qid=1565834577&s=electronics&sr=1-12

Looks great, feels great, seems like it protects very well...and the buttons are raised up seemingly the perfect amount. Not too flush, not too high and they work very well.

I also bought some silicone dust plugs for the charging port because on my last phone (Pixel 2) I had a piece of hard debris get wedged in there while trimming the grass when the phone was in my pocket. I'm pretty sure that was the culprit as to why my phone wouldn't charge after that. Sooo... I was looking for a case with a built in dust plug. I found two good ones... the Otterbox Defender at a discounted rate which I also bought ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NCZ2XJP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )...which is currently $20...but earlier today when I bought it, it was only $16... and the other case is SUPCASE ( https://www.amazon.com/SUPCASE-Full-body-Holster-Protector-Release/dp/B07JKVQJDJ/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=pixel+3+case+otterbox&qid=1565834400&s=electronics&sr=1-6 ) which is $20. Otterbox speaks for itself. You know it's going to protect your phone VERY well, but they're also bulky. The SUPCASE came pretty highly recommended as well, and doesn't seem to be overly bulky.
