I've always hated cases too, but this thing always felt like I was going to drop it cause of the glass back. I ended up getting a slim spine case for it. Barely adds to the size of the phone and offers protection

Their neo hybrid worked very well on a Galaxy S6 that I used for quite a while. The back survived a season at the golf course.

Is what I use, it works great with my Spigen case even though it's edge to edge. The top isn't fully covered as you can see, but it was very easy to apply and there's no air bubbles or anything like that.
I'd say this is a safe option.

Try a thinner case, or no case as the heat will dissipate better.
