I believe a null modem is what you're looking for. They can be found on Amazon.ca. It is probably easiest to just buy a new usb-serial adapter. Here is the amazon link:

You set a ip address on a managed switch so you can access it via its web management interface. You do this with null modem and hyperterm. After that you can telnet to it via ethernet.
