This type of plug is called "barrel jack" to just find a usb -> barrel jack cord that fits

I used a ready to use voltage regulator board like this one and an usb cable like this one (just examples perhaps there are cheaper options so maybe do your own research).
Then I removed the pins already soldered on the regulator board (for convenience) and soldered it inline to the usb cable following the directions on the board regarding input (from the usb side), output (to the barrel jack) and ground (gnd, common).
I then used a little bit of hot glue to fix the wires in place and heat-shrink tubing to wrap the whole thing.
