I'm looking at getting the Synology RT1900AC for exactly this reason. The DSM interface is extremely handy and I set up an OpenVPN connection to Private Internet Access on my NAS running the same software.

Wait what? You're replacing your Time Machine? Do you by change mean Airport Extreme (which can be used as a Time Machine destination)?
As well, you're probably better off asking over at /r/WirelessRouters/ since basically any router would work with a Synology unit. The only Synology-specific router is their RT1900ac.
