It is the only pecan sheller that uses a blade to nip off the end of the shell, and then nip down the dividing line between the two halves. I don't know of a better sheller as it generally leaves you with solid halves, and there are very few small shell pieces to winnow thru.
On an episode of Good Eats, Alton Brown visited a pecan farm where the owner used one of these to shell pecans. He clipped off each end and then cracked it in the middle. It seemed fairly easy, but I've never used one.
