If you're really interested I highly recommend The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism. It starts out with a (lengthy) biography of everyone involved before getting into the fight for the "soul" of the GOP after TR left office. It's incredibly well written and researched.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I tend to gravitate more towards biographies of politicians and presidents. They don't weigh down every page with politics but give a grasp on historical politics as well as understanding the lives of these figures in history and why they did what they did.

1-The bully pulpit is an excellent read on Teddy

2-Team of Rivals is one of the books that made Lincoln my favorite president of all time

I recently read Doris Kearns Goodwin's The Bully Pulpit which is about Roosevelt and Taft. I thought Goodwin did a pretty good job presenting the facts without taking a side. It talked about the bad stuff Roosevelt did like the Brownsville Affair and the good things. Same with Taft.

Caro should be obvious.

The Bully Pulpit: Roosevelt and Taft is another highly regarded.

Neither did I really until I read "The Bully Pulpit" by Doris Kearns Goodwin a year ago. I also just watched Ken Burns, "The Roosevelts" on PBS.

He really is one of the most remarkable people I've ever read about. It's like reading the backstory to a marvel comic book hero.

And likewise I know nothing about Australia that the Sydney Olympics didn't teach me. Apparently you're pretty good at swimming, it's hot, and there are kangaroos.

I really think you'd get a huge kick out of "The Bully Pulpit." It's a long one, but definitely worth the read.
