The first Kingman treaded the line between parody and action, sometimes recklessly, but never quite crossed it. Golden Circle pretty much just leaps across without looking back.

On the other hand, I never before realized how much I wanted to watch Elton John repeatedly slam a henchman's head in a grand piano while wearing a peacock costume. Or hear Mark Strong belt out "Country Roads".

One other interesting detail that I haven't seen discussed anywhere yet: the drug-users-held-ransom plot shares some interesting similarities with a real-life medical incident called "The Case of the Frozen Addicts", where consumers of synthetic heroin were reduced to a state of paralysis. If I recall, the most effective treatment is grafted stem cells... which was promptly outlawed by the U.S. government.

The Case of the Frozen Addicts: How the Solution of a Medical Mystery Revolutionized the Understanding of Parkinson's Disease. Amazon link Is a good book about the cases in the San Jose area around 1984.

Horrible cost to young lives involved, but helped with the understanding of what happened.
