This is great! You should write it up really nice and try getting it published.

It reminds me a little bit of a short story called "Vengeance Fleet" I read once. I'm slightly embarrassed because I can't remember the author, but it's in the anthology: "The Young Oxford Book of Timewarp Stories" if I'm not mistaken. It's actually a really good collection if you like time travel IMO.

EDIT: The author is possibly Fredric Brown

Hi, maybe what you're looking for is Room 409, by Nance Donkin? I can only find this particular one in publication as an anthology. I know it may not sound exactly like what you're describing--the anthology is more about ghost stories, but it the description talked about a boy, a room and World War II.

The site I found it on is pretty amazing with all the time travel stuff it lists.

If this one isn't what you're looking for, could you please try to provide more details if you can? Do you remember how about old you were when you read it and then translate that to a year? Sometimes this helps narrow down the date of publication. Or were you in a specific country (like the UK or Australia)? Was it was a particuliarly long or short book, hard cover, or did it have any illustrations?

I hope you find your book. I'd like to read it because it sounds really interesting.
