Bucky balls are actually a huge health hazard if swallowed, so it's generally recommended that people don't use them with children. A fun, child safe alternative is Wacky Tracks. They're a great fidget for people of any age. I have some, myself!

Some other general staples of play therapy are things like dolls and dollhouses. Basically, if you could find a doll house and a variety of dolls (ideally which could represent different family members), that would be great for working with kids.

Some people are also really into using sand trays. They're really popular in the world of play therapy.

Some other basic things would be stuff like art supplies (paint, paintbrushes, paper, crayons, markers) and moldable stuff, like Play-Doh/clay/model magic.

Those are basically the core things. i'm sure she'll be thrilled with just about anything you get for her though. I hope someone thoughtful in my life does this for me when I go into private practice!

Some of my favorite coping skills...

-Delay. Basically if you want to binge&purge, or you've already eaten/binged and want to purge, tell yourself, okay, if I still want to do this after 15/20 minutes, I can. And then in those 15 minutes, find something mindful to do. I like to walk my dog, color a picture, make a gratitude list, read a book, sudoku/word search, etc. Usually by the end of that time the urge has gone away.

-Use a mantra. Find a phrase that motivates/inspires you. You can pick a new one everyday if you need to. It can be anything "I am strong" "I choose health". Pick something that really resonates with you. Maybe write it on a couple of post-it notes. And repeat the phrase in your head when youre struggling.

-Fidgets. This for me is more for anxiety but it could be helpful to you. They sell fidget toys online (this ones my fav: https://www.amazon.com/Toysmith-Wacky-Tracks-Assorted-Colors/dp/B002XH7WYK/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1480954874&sr=8-23&keywords=fidget+toys )

-Scent. I use essentional oils. Another good one for anxiety/depression/etc. Certain essential oils help with different things. Lavender is very relaxing/calming. Yling Yling is relaxing. Lemon is for happiness/boost your mood. Rose is good for energy. etcetc. You can use a diffuser or place a couple of drops of your shirt sleeves/collar/on a scarf. If I have the urge to b/p, then an oil that's grounding and an oil thats relaxing would help. If I'm really depressed I might use lemon, rose, and lavender.
