Umm, no. That is a powerline adapter. Powerline sends a signal over your electrical cables so you supposedly don't need to run an Ethernet cable. Sounds great doesn't it? Except for the fact that electrical cables were never meant to carry data. Powerline adapters are garbage and much worse than anything else that has been suggested here. Even using normal WiFi with no AP would be better. The speed claims on them are 100% lies. Even if you decide to get a lower speed tier don't go anywhere near powerline.

What you need in an AP. Good ones are the Ubiquiti AC-LITE and the TP-LINK EAP225.

It has wifi and was $50 when I bought it. It shows up as a deal of the day about once every 6 weeks according to my tracking app. It is advertised as gigabit but I only see about 700 mbps probably due to it not being on the same circuit or old wiring....still been great for my hdhomerun needs.

Here's the same model kit with the wireless extender replacing the other Powerline adapter

You should be able to find just the Wireless extender. In any case it doesn't matter because these are AV2 standard extenders and should interopt with any other AV2 Powerline adapter. Or you can get the kit and have 2 Ethernet adapters and 1 WiFi adapter - they can all work at the same time.

It's different than a repeater because it's integrated into the Powerline adapter and because most of these adapters have better setup features than the general repeaters. Plus the network traffic doesn't have to co-exist on the wireless network - with Powerline all the inter device network traffic goes over Powerline, only the wireless device traffic needs to go over WiFi.

Would this work? It would pick up the wifi signal with this and with an Ethernet cable plugged from my computer into this I should essentially have internet right?

Edit: Or something like this?

So I need to suck it up about the aesthetic of the wires because let’s be real... internet is more important. If I got the suggested modem and router and then used this extended with an Ethernet wire, would that allow me to get WiFi in the basement?

Sorry for all of the dumb questions... this is all Greek to me.

good news, there's a thing called a 'powerline adapter' that will allow you to use the copper wiring in your house as a lan cable

I've used these in the past and they're excellent for your situation. If you ever need more than one port up in your room you can buy a switch to connect to this thing.

Heres a link to amazon for one i recommend:

Heres a link to a youtube video futher describing how these things work:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywQeJCa3jl8

You mentioned your house may not have the proper electrical wiring/layout in order for one of these to work. In my experience that's rarely the case, but it is possible. Amazon has an excellent return policy though. If you buy one of these and it turns out it doesn't work due to your homes electrical layout, you can always return it free of charge and be in the same boat you're in now.

I think SSD is the way to go regardless. I play in the bedroom on a One X with a Western Digital external SSD (I even have a fan blowing on the rear of the console for cooling/ventilation).

When my wife comes to the bedroom to sleep and we've finished watching movies together I'll unplug the SSD and move to the living room and play on my Day One Xbox One. The WiFi is broken on the console so I use one of these and plug my SSD in to and rock and roll.

The textures are shit BUT guns load before or right as I hit the ground and frame rate is steady for the most part.
