You do not need the chat adapter. Chat cable will go straight from the headset to the controller.
Edit: You will have to go into the menu to adjust chat volume though. But, this cable fixes that. I turn the chat volume full blast in the console menu then you can control the chat volume with this chat cable. It works great with the A50 even though its a turtle beach product.

If you have a controller with a headset port already, this isn't going to help you at all; they both do pretty much the same thing and the port is exactly the same.

ok i so called turtle beach. They are super helpful. It was the talk back cable.
