I second everything he's said here.
Regarding durability, just pick up a nice sturdy case like this one from UAG
I ran that case when I had my Note 3 and it was great.
I also agree that the 2 phones you should be considering are the Note 5 and the Nexus 6P.
If you want to save some money, the Moto X Pure is a great device as well. You of course give up a few features compared to the Note 5 and 6P (namely a fingerprint reader, and the camera isn't quite as nice. The processor is also a little slower, but not by a ton).
Get the clear uag case. It's my favorite case I have. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B011ERM9RE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1451771493&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=note+5+clear+uag+case&dpPl=1&dpID=416cOjb4zsL&ref=plSrch
I've been at work and at home while experiencing it, so I don't think it's my environment. I have an Urban Armor Gear case (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011ERM9RE/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awd_X6rEwbWKHN7FZ) so I don't think it's the case..
