But won't your cat get fat? If I gave my cat one of these she would eat 5 times a day, then finding any kind of cloth/carpet to throw up on.
Do they make machines that auto-drop food once a day? Maybe twice a day? I'd set it to drop food 10 minutes before I wake up, and 10 minutes before I get home from work.
Edit: Found one but it's $90...

We used a thing called an auto feeder. It's just a hopper of food that keeps the bowl full, no batteries required or anything. It's their usual food bowl anyway, and we knew from experience it only needed filling about once per week.
The bigger problem is litter. With two cats & two litter boxes, we hired someone to come every day to empty the boxes. Our cats would disclose their disdain for a used litter box by using the carpet if the boxes were not kept clean. Which sucked; when we sold the house, we had to replace the carpeting, scour the concrete, and it still did not get all the pet odor out...
