How old are the clippers? They could need maintenance or replaced if you're already buzzing against the grain. Make sure to clean and oil the blades after each use. It can help if you put a hot towel around your head for a bit, too; opens everything up, makes it easier to cut (feels good, too).

Hair Clipper Oil (just a tiny bit) will take care of that. Don't use WD40 as @Jaycee316 pointed out. It will break down the plastic. http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Hair-Clipper-Blade-3310-300/dp/B0084AWBRS/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463067752&sr=8-1&keywords=razer+oil

Ditto. I have a bottle of the Wahl (https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Hair-Clipper-Blade-3310-300/dp/B0084AWBRS) oil for nearly three years and a little goes a long way (at least with clippers).

I intended to point out that there are many food-safe oil products that are nothing but repackaged Chevron white oil #10.
