Don't know for sure, but I do know from other industries that scaling up can be hard, plus residential settings will take far, far higher failure rates than commercial settings, and require different features.
Take these two hard drives: Data Center and Home
They're both 2TB, 3.5 inch form factor, 7200 RPM with a 64mb cache. But the data center drive costs twice as much, because it has extra features to help out in a data center environment.
How is the remote monitoring and maintenance on the Tesla Roof? Does the charge controller phone home when there's an unexpected hiccup? Are there voltage alarms? How well does it deal with hot-swapping batteries? How well does it deal with thermal runaway burning out the whole battery farm (and likely the structure containing it)?
To an extent there's efficiency of scale, but scale comes with it's own challenges, and I have no idea if the solar roof system is equipped to handle those challenges. Yet.
anyone know if you can order the dell servers without drives?
I'd much rather use these over the Dell provided ones at over $700 a pop
