I'm really surprised nobody has said Xiaomi Piston 3. These are extremely good earbuds, and they're only $20. The volume buttons and play/pause button work perfectly. A lot of audiophiles regard these as the best headphones under $100, and they're both earbuds and only $20.

Best headphones I've ever owned. I bought 3 of these things, the first broke and the second lost. Liked it soo much so much I got it again. Xiaomi Piston III Headset Earphones with Remote and Mic - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V9RKSAA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aj8nxbGMKYQE7

These were the last ones I had. They weren't fantastic but I'm looking for something in this vein, maybe a little pricier. I miss them so much

About this time last year I started a new job and decided to upgrade my headphones (since I spend a lot of time listening to music at work). After spending quite a lot of time on this sub, I settled on the Xiaomi Piston III Headset Earphones for about $20 from Amazon. They proved a quality purchase and were a huge upgrade over what I had been previously using ($4.99 jobbies that you get from the checkout counter at CVS). About a week ago, someone rifled through my car and stole them (ignoring my GPS unit and freshly pressed suit).

So, now, a year later, I'm looking for replacements. My budget would be anywhere up to about $50. My audio source is streamed music (subscription level spotify through the web app and podcasts through my phone). I'm looking for decent quality but obviously if I was really concerned I wouldn't be listening to streamed music - I appreciate the subtleties and details but right now this is what fits my life.

The over vs. in ear debate is tough - I wear them at work to shut out the noise of an open office (and I sit near the sales drones whom spend half their time shouting into phones the other half playing office basketball), but my position also means I can't be sitting there dead to the world wrapped up in my headphones. In ear ones need to be somewhat adjustable in size or at least rubberized - Apple earbuds fall out of my ears.

One condition that really limits my options is that I like headphones that have a microphone and can support hands free calling - I don't need the button to interact with my phone the way the native Apple ones do, but I want to be able to drive in the car and talk into the headphones without holding the phone in my hand. The Xiaomis I had previously actually worked pretty well for this.

One problem that I did have with the Xiaomi set was that the rubber sizing tips tended to fall off all the time, and I lost quite a few over the past year. The overall build quality was good, but those rubber tips came off all the time, and inevitably bounced on the floor and into the black hole of success, never to be seen again.

As for actual music I listen to, its mostly within the ambient, chill, or downtempo genres of electronic music. Think Tycho, Aphex Twin, Ullrich Schnauss, and Boards of Canada. I need something to drown out the chaos at work, but I also do a lot of very detail oriented writing and reading, and I find that if the music has too many lyrics it makes it difficult to focus on the words I'm writing.

Long post, and of course if no one here finds this worth their time I'll just use the available resources and pick something, but I know I'll probably end up with something similar to before and I was hoping to maybe have my eyes and ears opened to something new by asking the experts.

The Xiaomi Piston III Earphones are my favorite, cheap earphones. They work really well and are quite small.

Brainwavz Delta, Xiaomi Pistons (make sure to buy from a trusted reseller, as there are many fake versions of these), and the MEE m6 are all commonly regarded at that price point. I recommend hitting up /r/headphones and headfi.org for more advice. Not sure I'd recommend actual headphones at that price point.

No if there is a "fulfilled by Amazon" it's other seller and they just use Amazon fulfilled center for shipping, so there is still possibility for fake product.

But if you choose a seller having the Amazon logo, it's 100% sold by Amazon and that means they buy it directly from manufacturer.

So if you click on this link it's sold by Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Xiaomi-Piston-III-Headset-Earphones/dp/B00V9RKSAA?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

  • Budget - <$50.
  • Source - Phone
  • Requirements for Isolation - A lot. I'm going to be mainly using it outside.
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - IEM
  • Preferred tonal balance - Balanced
  • Past headphones - Xiaomi Piston III. They were fine.
  • Preferred Music - DnB, metal.
  • What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I'd like something with more bass than the Pistons. If there's something with generally better sound quality, I'm very interested in that too (being a newbie, I wouldn't know what that is until I tried it; I'm leaving it up to the experts in this sub).

I work with kids, and sometimes they play with my headphones, so a pair of durable IEMs would be greatly appreciated.

I recently bought the xiaomi piston 3s they're pretty nice, sound good... Though I don't have much to compare them to.

Xiaomi Piston III Headset Earphones with Remote and Mic - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V9RKSAA/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_CxTKwbDW7KDZ8 this is where I bought my Piston IIIs and they are legit. Amazing sound for $20 Earbuds

The Xiaomi Piston III's. Great sound, great price.

Xiaomi Piston 3 but they aren't great for running so I got the MEE audio M6P recently. They sound good enough and fit well but I have yet to test them on a run though. Maybe tonight. I use the Piston 3 for every-day music listening and both models are cheap, like 15€.

I also bought the 180€ Jaybird X2 but returned them for their bad fit. Also I feel a lot better without wasting 180€ on IEMs.

I am looking to buy a pair of the Xiaomi Piston 3 IEMs, just have noticed people talking about knockoffs that try to pass as the originals and wanted to make sure that I was looking in the right place so I don't need to worry about that. Are either of these reliable to be the real deal or should I look elsewhere?

u/floogulinc · 1 pointr/headphones

Maybe the Xiaomi Piston 3

Be aware that there's plenty of fake piston earbuds being sold, an amazon reviewer took some pictures to differentiate the fakes from the legit ones. http://www.amazon.com/Xiaomi-Piston-III-Headset-Earphones/dp/B00V9RKSAA

I've used the Xiaomi Pistons 3, SoundPeats QY7 and Jaybird X2's that I stole from my friend for a few weeks with my 6P. Without sound mods like Viper and such, the Pistons kinda sound lackluster. With or without sound mods, the X2s and the SoundPeats are actually pretty decent.

I bought the Xiaomi Piston III's for $15 (currently <$13 before tax, if you don't trust that site, it's $20 on Amazon) and they sound better than my $90 Beyerdynamic in-ear's. The only downside are the volume buttons don't work with iPhone, the center button (pause/play & answer call/mute) and mic work though.

Also, both sound much better than my Beats Tour's ($150) that I got as a present when they first came out like 7 years ago.

EDIT: What up with the downvotes?
