Not shorai tender, yuasa. Yeah every O'Reillys, Napa etc has deka under their own label. Lithium seem finicky and don't have the cca's

Easiest way to learn is on a little dirtbike if you can borrow one somewhere. Otherwise I recommend taking the MSF course.
A dying battery won't hold much charge and that's probably why it keeps dying on you. A dead battery is a common issue on any old bike that you don't know when the previous owner last replaced it, especially if they didn't ride it much.
You can get a battery tender which has a plug that you wire to your battery to make it convenient to charge anytime. You are going to need one eventually anyway for winter storage.
